Laundry is Not Just Washing Clothes
Would you believe that some people actually like doing laundry? It must be because they like looking back on a job well done. But, laundry is never really done. It’s an unending chore that appears day after day. Here are a few ideas to make doing laundry easier:
1. Make sure you have the supplies you need where you can get at them easier. Why do some people keep their laundry supplies in another room? It just takes more time to get it and bring it back to the laundry.
2. Make sure each family member (or bedroom if shared by more than one person) has its own dirty clothes hamper. Most people have a tendency to just drop dirty clothes on the floor. Give them an easy alternative.
3. Using more than one hamper in the laundry room can eliminate the need to pile clothes on the floor to sort them. If you’re lucky enough to have the room, have one hamper for each type of dirty clothes: lights, colors, darks and delicates.
4. When you’re ready to do the laundry, get the clothes ready. Close zippers, hooks and buttons to prevent them from breaking. Remove nonwashable decorative items such as pins or buckes. Pretreat stains with stain remover, if necessary.
5. Shake out each item before putting it into the dryer. This will minimize wrinkles and speeds drying time. You can avoid a lot of ironing if you don’t put too many items in the dryer at a time and take them out of the dryer as soon as the drying cycle is finished.
