Organizing Tips for the Clutter Bug - 1

It’s a fact of life: Clutter accumulates! Where does it come from? Who knows — it just appears, right? :)

Here are some tips to start de-cluttering your home:

  •  Make a Plan - with a capital “P.” Take a good look at your home to see where improvements can be made. Write it down! Make a master list of all areas of your home. Take one area of a room at a time. Don’t try to do it all at once.
  • Create a “Clutter Tool Chest.” This will contain all the items that will help you get your clutter under control:
  • Notebook
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Permanent Marker
  • Laundry baskets or boxes for sorting
  • Labels for labeling boxes
  • Ziploc bags (large & small)
  • Trash Bags
  • Keep a “Before and After” notebook. It will inspire you to keep your house at the “After” stage!
  • Choose 3 areas that need help the worst to work on in your first room. Start with the stuff you can see and work to the stuff you can’t see - in cupboards, drawers, attics and basements.
  • Set a deadline to finish each area or room - depending upon how much clutter there is. Don’t overbook your schedule! You’ll just give up.
  • Don’t forget to take breaks. Work in small doses - more often.
  • Reward yourself! No, don’t buy anything ;) Read a book, get a manicure, watch a movie…whatever you want to do.
  • There’s a good start for you…go on…get organized!
